The October Melbourne Campaigners Network session focused on Stepping People Up: Pathways for strong campaigns.
Naomi Blackburn, MCN co-convenor and Director of Power in Numbers, facilitated a well attended, thought provoking session. There was plenty of ‘juice’ in this topic so we’ll be considering sessions for 2015 that can further build on this one.
A key part of the session was the Circles of Commitment framework – a useful tool for thinking about the layers of people involved in your campaign or organisation. Power in Numbers has developed a summary diagram for use in trainings which you can download here.
This diagram builds on Make Believe’s Purpose Driven Campaigning which is an adaption for campaigning organisations of Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Church.
Small groups discussed how to step people up between each layer of the circles of commitment framework. Becc kindly wrote up these brainstorm notes.
For another perspective, read Michael Pulsford’s reflections on Circles of Commitment after being trained by Naomi as part of the Community Organising Fellowship.
