Holly Hammond, Director of Plan to Win, is excited to be working with the Chisholm Institute to develop and deliver the Graduate Certificate in Community Advocacy in 2014. This is an excellent opportunity for change agents to deepen their skills and knowledge through a unique accredited course.

i-want-changeThe Graduate Certificate draws on the latest knowledge about effective campaigning as well as established theoretical frameworks for understanding and promoting social justice and ecological sustainability.

This advanced course was developed to meet current grassroots campaigning needs by a panel including environmental activists, media consultants, human rights lawyers and NGO representatives.

Participants will be supported to develop practical skills in planning campaigns, lobbying, using media and building active memberships.

The aim is to provide a structured learning environment for students to think deeply about how social change occurs and how mobilisation of concerned citizens can be effective.

The program is delivered by experienced practitioners and experts in seminars aimed to inspire lively debate and critical discussion. Contemporary case studies will be considered, ensuring learning is realistic and applicable.

Study areas include:

  1. Theories of social change and the State
  2. Community organising in the 21st century
  3. Organisational dynamics
  4. Effective communication techniques

The course will be held over nine months (March – November) in central Melbourne and will include:

  • One day per fortnight (Friday)
  • Small number of weekend intensive seminars
  • Workplace projects (paid or unpaid work) and e-learning tasks.

Australian citizens are eligible for VET-FEE Help loans for the tuition fee.
